Every year in the middle of the NRL season, the very best Australian players in the NRL are chosen to represent their State in the State of Origin Series. Players are selected to play for the state in which they first played football. The best-of-three series between between the Maroons, representing the state of Queensland and the Blues, representing the state of New South Wales is often described as sport's fiercest of rivalries represented in the emotion, passion and intensity of the three matches. State of Origin often attracts sell-out crowds at the venues in which matches are played and is considered by many Australian Players as the most competitive and intense level of Rugby League at the world despite being a domestic competition.
