
1877 – Michael Mendoza Simmons aged 29 founded the company, with only 5 pounds in his pocket. The original store was called the Mick Simmons Tobacco Box with the tag line “CANT B BEAT”.
1889 – Richard Mendoza Simmons is appointed the director of the business.
1894 – Mick Simmons dies after battling influenza for multiple years.
1900 – The company floats on the stock exchange and becomes a public company.
1901 – Mick Simmons supplies cricket sets to Australian troops fighting in the Boer war.
1902 – Flagship store at 720 George Street Haymarket opens. It is branded the most up to date sports store in the world.
1903 – The company begins importing sporting goods from England and the USA for distribution in Australia.
1905 – Company adds two more floors, café, two smoking lounges, hairdressing parlour, full size tennis court, golf driving range, cricket nets and state of the art shooting range.
1912 – Company produces first catalogue. The start of many more historic publications.
1925 – Existing Haymarket store is demolished and new larger premises is erected. Specialised sporting department and product merchandising continued to keep the Mick Simmons at the top of its game.
1929-1932 – Don Bradman signs with Mick Simmons as a cricket bat specialist.
1930 - Don Bradman and Mick Simmons Ltd. release special test bat.
1943 – Mick Simmons has 6 satellite stores around Sydney.
1952-1968 – New stores opened at Hurstville and Parramatta.
1968 – Company privatised by tobacco tycoon Mr. Arthur Nelson, Australia’s largest tobacco wholesaler, and separated the tobacco and sporting side of the business.
1969-1980 – Mick Simmons expands Australia wide with stores in Canberra, Adelaide, Brisbane and Melbourne.
1973 – First television advertisement’s launched.
1977 – Mick Simmons Sport celebrates 100 years.
1981 – Mick Simmons current flagship store 478 George Street, Sydney is then purchased by the current owner. With 1000sqm of sporting products.
2007 – Arthur Nelson aged 82 sells business.
2009 – Mick Simmons online is launched.
